Synthesia Basic: free avatar video creation; paid downloads

Synthesia is an AI video maker that turns scripts into videos with digital presenters and voiceovers, for training, explainers and business communications.

What makes it different?

Pairs a digital presenter with a script and voiceover. It suits presenter-led training and explainers, rather than audio-only narration.

Competitors

HeyGen: Avatar-led video creation
Colossyan: AI presenter videos for learning

Product source checked 2026-09-08.

Who it is for

Avatar-led explainers and training-video concepts.

Who can claim it?

Basic is advertised without a credit card. An account and the service’s content and usage rules still apply.

Limitations of the free tier

Video minutes and generated assets draw on a shared credit pool, so their headline maxima are not cumulative. Downloads and logo removal are Starter features. Stock-avatar use in paid or boosted advertising requires express written consent from Synthesia.

Billing and renewal

The Basic allowance is described as monthly. This listing covers the current free plan, not an old summer promotion or a paid-plan introductory discount.
